MDWS GPC (General Purpose Cartridge) Lineup Has You Covered!

The MDWS GPC was designed to make full use of the case potential of the 6.8SPC case, while still allowing for smooth feeding and extraction in an MSR. Similar to an "Ackley Improved" cartridge, but not as dramatic, the case taper is slightly reduced and the shoulder angle is changed, resulting in increased case capacity. (Please see photo to left - the loaded case is a standard 6.8SPC, the fired case to the right is an MDWS 27 GPC case). Similar to the Ackley method, standard factory 6.8SPC ammunition could be fired in the MDWS 27 GPC - and, by doing so you fire-form your cases for maximum reloading potential. (Remember the 6.8SPC ammunition will headspace at the neck/shoulder junction of the 27 GPC chamber, so please practice safe headspace measuring methods and do NOT fire Hot/6.8SPC II loads in the 27 GPC to fire-form). If your 6.8SPC Factory ammunition will not fire in the 27 GPC barrel the factory ammunition headspace may be "short", or has excessive headspace. It may be that your bolt causes excessive headspace as well. Either condition will not allow a full firing pin strike on the primer. Excessive headspace can be a dangerous condition so again please execute extreme caution as always.
Since even the pioneers of the 6.8SPC agree it will not become a military cartridge, we may as well get the most out of the case as possible; no need for so much taper and no need for the 23 degree shoulder angle. The 6.8SPCII boasts approximately 50-150fps gains over the original 6.8SPC (depending on bullet weight and powders used), and the 27 GPC boasts the same over the 6.8SPCII. If those that promote the 6.8SPCII over the 6.8SPC stead fast with their reasoning for same, then the MDWS 27 GPC only provides yet another opportunity to truly benefit from such a great case/caliber combination! No more confusion of the SPC or the SPCII (which has multiple chamber variations depending on manufacturer) - it's all too confusing, and SAAMI only recognizes the original SPC so factory ammunition is stalled at the SPC's performance.
Even better yet, those with 6.8SPC or 6.8SPCII rifles can ream their chambers to MDWS 27 GPC to reap the benefits - as long as it is a Stainless Steel barrel, NOT a Nitride/Melonite/QPQ barrel (that would destroy the reamer).
It all started with the conversion of the 6.8SPC to the MDWS 27 GPC. Now, we will be offering a full complement of cartridges based on the MDWS GPC case!
